Rep. Mace introduces bathroom resolution after first transgender woman elected to Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCIV) — Rep. Nancy Mace announced Monday that she is introducing a resolution to ban transgender women from using the women’s restrooms at the U.S. Capitol.
The announcement comes just two weeks since the first openly transgender woman was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Delaware State Sen. Sarah McBride was elected to represent Delaware’s sole, at-large congressional district on Election Day 2024. Though she led a historic campaign, she didn’t run just to become the first trans Congressperson.
“My day-to-day focus is not explaining gender identity to people,” McBride said in an interview with ABC News. “My day-to-day focus is delivering tangible results for the constituents that I serve.”

Mace said the resolution reflects her “ongoing commitment to protecting women’s rights.”
“We are standing up for women, protecting their spaces, and restoring a bit of sanity to Capitol Hill,” Mace said in a press release.
The resolution is expected to be formally filed Monday night.
